Link Building
Link building is job #1 for off site SEO, which is really so much simpler than on site SEO, but it is most often a lot harder to accomplish. Let me explain.
You can learn how to do the on site SEO and you should be able to fully control it fairly easily.
Good link building can increase your website's exposure greatly. Link building is generally agreed to be the most significant factor in raising your organic search engine results in google.
There will be a time demand and careful attention to “dotting all of your i’s and crossing all of your t’s” correctly, but it is all within your direct reach.
Your on site SEO is your site’s own TESTIMONY of its own worth,
in contrast to off site SEO,
which is your site’s REPUTATION of its worth
in the eyes of others.
Effective off-site SEO is directly and solely related to inbound links to your website.

1. What about Inbound Links?
You Can’t Have Too Many
When it comes to on site SEO vs. off site SEO, the off site SEO is more important, and when it comes to the most important aspect of off site SEO, inbound links is the most important aspect, and when it comes to the most important thing about the inbound links, it is the qualified number that is most important.
The more you have, the better your website will rank for your relevant keyword searches as they relate to your website.
The search engine’s algorithms are complex, with varying weight being given to each thing that is being weighed, but there is no doubt that the heaviest component of the algorithms is the number of qualified inbound links.
Website popularity (the number of links pointed at your site - each link is a popular vote) or website reputation (links pointed to your site from other websites indicated that your site is valued by others) is the single most important aspect of off site SEO.
The Source of the Links
Just say no to link farms! You can’t have too many inbound links, so long as they don’t proceed from illegitimate sources. Illegitimate sources would be what is known as “linkfarms.” They are just junk directories and automated blogs made up of thousands and thousands of links.
I agree with the search engines, these links simply should not count. They are not a real “vote”. The “vote” that has been cast is fraudulent.
There are thousands of sources (and spammers) that will offer to “submit you site” to thousands of directories, search engines and blogs. Almost all of these are scams, and none of them will work well.
The truth is that even if the company actually fulfills its promise of promotion, you will not see a significant increase in the rank of your web pages, and the major search engine’s algorithms simply will not reward you for links that proceed from these pages.
Some people suggest that you can even be penalized, but I would not think so. It just won’t do you any good.
I don’t think that the engines will penalize you for the junk links, because someone else could easily submit your site to these services without your approval or even you knowledge. It would not be good logic.
However, to ignore those links from such sources is good logic, - so don’t waste your time or money and don’t reward the scam artists that are defrauding people, which is a crime.
Should you ever pay someone to do such services? Yes. I would say it would be safe to do so if you personally know and trust them and they assure you that you are buying their services to place your links properly on only legitimate websites and directories.
Reciprocating Links
The most common form of linking is reciprocating links. This simply means that you link to someone’s website and they reciprocate with a link back to you.
One Way Links
Are one way links better? Not necessarily. If you have reciprocating links from well established business websites that result in you making sales, it is hard to beat that!
Tertiary Links
If you have the ability to operate more than one website, this is a good and legitimate way to get more inbound links and to turn some links that would be reciprocal into one-way links that have more value.
